Built in the 1880s by the Sawday family, the Witch Creek school taught students in grades 1 through 8 until 1952. After the 1952 school year, seventh and eighth graders were sent to Julian, CA. Through 1954, when the school closed, the first through sixth graders were taught by Mrs. Rosemary Dewitt. Served the Santa Ysabel school district until 1938, then it was part of the Julian Union School District until it closed. The last original one room school, remaining in San Diego County, the Witch Creek school was moved to its current location in 1969, where it is the home of the Julian Historical Society.
